Serge Ramelli: New York

In a fascinating way, the French photographer and YouTube star shows us the changeable character of New York, this time in colour: obtrusively colourful neon signs, pulsating hustle and bustle on the avenues next to atmospheric sunrises over the awakening city or empty streets without a trace of human life.

People play a rather subordinate role in Serge Ramelli’s photos. What matters is the setting, the mood, the light and the surroundings.

Typical elements and sights are always depicted as no visitor to the city has ever seen them, except in their dreams – or in a movie. Because that is what Ramelli is a master of: elevating everyday scenes to cinematic ones. His photographs show iconic places such as Times Square and the Empire State Building in a new light and invite you to discover the city from a dreamlike perspective.
